A railwaywoman informs a passenger on the platform at Kiruna...
KIRUNA, NORRBOTTEN, SWEDEN - 2021/04/13: A railwaywoman informs a passenger on the platform at Kiruna station. In Sweden, a night train line runs from Stockholm to Swedish Lapland. Nicknamed the "Ore Line", this railway was built in the early 20th century when the first iron ore was mined in Kiruna, northern Sweden. It was the first railroad beyond the Arctic Circle. It was originally used to transport Swedish ore to the Norwegian port of Narvik. Until the 1980s, there was no road linking the two towns. Today, the line still carries iron, but it has also opened up to passenger transport. It is the second-most northerly passenger line in the world, after Murmansk in Russia.
