Catalan Parliamentary Session Of Investiture

BARCELONA, SPAIN - MAY 14: Quim Torra shakes hands with the President of the Parliament of Catalonia Roger Torrent after being elected as the new President of Catalonia during the second day of the parliamentary session debating on his investiture as the new CataloniaÕs President at Parliament of Catalonia on May 14, 2018 in Barcelona, Spain. Despite gaining the majority after the regional elections held last December, pro-independence parties are struggling to form government as some of their leaders are in custody in jail in Madrid, whilst the former President of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont, after being in a self-imposed exile in Brussels is in Germany while the country's justice system continues to study a request for his extradition issued by Spain. After failing to elect the new President on Saturday members of the Parliament will hold a second vote today in which only a simple majority will be needed for the candidate Quim Torra to be the 131st president of Catalonia. The far-left party CUP decided on Sunday in an assembly do not vote against the new candidate which will allow to elect the new president after four attempts. (Photo by David Ramos/Getty Images)
