Pathfinders - Sir Marc Isambard Brunel', circa 1812, (1922). Portrait of Sir Marc Isambard Brunel, British engineer and inventor (1769-1849) with drawings and a model of the morticing machine of the Portsmouth blockmaking machine he made with machine builder Henry Maudslay. The blockmaking machine introduced the mass production of ships' blocks. From 1825, Brunel was engaged, along with his son Isambard Kingdom Brunel, to construct the first Thames tunnel, which was completed in 1843.
