Mr and Mrs Astor, First Class passengers on Titanic, Madeleine Force and John Jacob Astor had been on an extended honeymoon in Egypt and Paris and in the spring of 1912, decided to return to America on board Titanic, They boarded the Titanic at Cherbourg with Colonel Astor's manservant Mr Victor Robbins , Mrs Astor's maid Miss Rosalie Bidois and their pet Airedale Kitty, Also accompanying the Astors was Mrs Astor's private nurse Miss Caroline Louise Endres, Madeleine Astor was five months pregnant when her husband put her in one of Titanic's lifeboats, She was rescued eight hours after her husband went down with the ship, In August 1912, she gave birth to a son with whom she was pregnant on the Titanic , and she named him after her husband, John Jacob Astor. Titanic was built by Harland & Wolff in Belfast Ireland during 1910 - 1911, and sank on 15th April, 1912, after striking an iceberg off the coast of Newfoundland during her maiden voyage from Southampton, England to New York, USA, with the loss of 1,522 passengers and crew.
