Monument of Admiral Sir Charles Napier in St. Paul's Cathedral, 1869. Commemoration of '...Sir Charles Napier, the conqueror of Acre, commander of the British fleet in the Baltic, and M.P. for Southwark...This monument was uncovered, a few weeks since, on the eighth anniversary of his death, in the presence of several members of his family and brother officers...It is of white marble; upon two flags are inscribed the names of most of the battles in which Sir Charles Napier was engaged. The head which occupies the centre is in bold relief, and surrounded by a wreath of laurel and oak; in the background are represented his last flag-ship, the Duke of Wellington, several gun-boats, and a fortress, representing the Russian stronghold of Bomarsund at the moment of explosion. The following inscription is beneath: "Charles Napier, M.P., Admiral, Count Napier St. Vincent, born 1786, died 1860." The sculptor is Mr. Geo. G. Adams'. From "Illustrated London News", 1869.
