Melrose Abbey
Melrose Abbey in the Scottish Borders, where Robert the Bruce's heart is said to be buried. The Abbey, built by David I around 1130, was in a vulnerable position near the English border and suffered several attacks before being destroyed by English troops during raids in 1543 and 1544. Restoration of the Abbey was carried out under the direction of Sir Walter Scott in 1822, photo circa 1985. (Photo by RDImages/Epics/Getty Images)
