Polish hand made unique chess pieces attract world clients
KRAKOW, POLAND - JULY 04 : Lukasz Wiciarz, owner of 'Benekczy' wood carving studio poses for a portrait on July 04, 2024 in Krakow, Poland. In his studio, he has over 50 different chess sets available immediately, ranging from classic ones, through tournament ones, to carved and carved ones. He calls his passion for carving wood a "heritage". Mr. Lukasz's great-grandfather studied sculpture in Vienna. During the day, Mr. Lukasz is able to complete up to three sets, starting early in the morning until late in the evening. There are also some that take up to a week to prepare. It all depends on the type of chess. When asked how many chess pieces he has managed to carve in 20 years of work, he answers briefly: It is impossible to count. Lots, I'm sure there are thousands of sets. (Photo by Omar Marques/Anadolu via Getty Images)
