Police Hunt Drug Warlord Khun Sa
A joint patrol of Thai Rangers and border police drive past local residents of Ban Hin Taek in the hunt for opium warlord Khun Sa and his Shan United Army (SUA). The Thai soldiers are part of a 1,000-man force of paramilitary border police and rangers which had just fought a four day battle for control of Ban Hin Taek, Khun Sa's base of operations, located south of the Burmese border in the Golden Triangle of northern Thailand. Following the military victory, Ban Hin Taek was officially renamed Ban Thoet Thai (also spelt Ban Thoed Thai or Ban Therd Thai). 28th January 1982. (Photo by Alex Bowie/Getty Images)
