MOMBASA, KENYA - 2020/11/27: Irine Akinyi, 28 year old, a victim of lead poisoning in Uwino Uhuru Village of Changamwe seen after an interview with the press. She suffers from kidney and thyroid problems as a result of exposure to lead poisoning from a lead battery smelting company in her neighborhood. The company has so far been shut down but the damage left behind has been deadly. In a Landmark ruling earlier this year, the government and the two private investors were ordered to pay the victims a ksh 1.3 billion equivalent to 12 million USD as compensation, a matter the government through the attorney general has appealed.
