SYRIA-TURKEY-CONFLICT-HEALTH
In this picture taken on May 2, 2023, Yusuf Haj Yusuf, a 60-year-old internally-displaced Syrian lung cancer patient originally from Saraqib and who was being treated in Turkey, receives treatment at the Haematology and Oncology department run by the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) at Idlib Central Hospital in the rebel-held northwestern Syrian city. Syrians in the country's last main rebel bastion have been waiting to cross into Turkey for life-saving medical treatment for almost four months because Ankara suspended authorisation following a deadly earthquake. Doctors in Idlib refer most heart and cancer patients to Turkey, where they can receive free treatment under an agreement with rebel authorities. But after the February earthquake Ankara halted medical visits via northwest Syria's Bab al-Hawa. (Photo by OMAR HAJ KADOUR / AFP) (Photo by OMAR HAJ KADOUR/AFP via Getty Images)
