Helen Keller with Anne Sullivan

(Original Caption) Helen Keller (seated) as she looked in the 1920's, pictured here with "Teacher" Anne Sullivan, who arrived at the Keller home in 1887 and who assisted Miss Keller in her personal and professional life for the better part of three decades. Miss Keller often said that whatever success in life she may have achieved really belonged to her beloved "Teacher." In 1914, the pair was joined in their household by a young Scots woman, Polly Thomson. Polly received the kind of training that enabled her to take over as companion and assistant to Miss Keller when Anne Sullivan Macy - who had married in the interim - died in 1936.
