SAILING-RECORD-EXPLORER STARTS

French skipper Bruno Peyron and his US counterpart Cam Lewis along with a small crew sail their 86-foot catamaran "Explorer" past the start line between a sea bouy and a landmark on the Miami Beach skyline (behind) 30 May 1999 as they begin their attempt to set a new sailing record between Miami and New York City in a expected time of about three days. Lewis and Peyron will attempt as well to break the old transatlantic record of 6 days, 13 hours and 03 minutes that was set by Peyron back in 1990 when they leave New York en route to the English Channel sometime in early June.
