WASHINGTON, DC - DECEMBER 3: Dr. Neha Gupta, emergency medicine
WASHINGTON, DC - DECEMBER 3:
Dr. Neha Gupta, emergency medicine resident at George Washington University (GWU), poses for a portrait after a press conference to announce the results of their vote to authorize an Unfair Labor Practice strike, outside the GWU Hospital in Washington, DC on December 3, 2024. "We didn't want to do this strike, we don't want to have to do this but after 15 months of negotiations we've been pushed to that point. GWU has the choice to avert the strike and to come to the table with a fair contract - which is what we are hoping to do... We know that we deserve better and that our patients deserve better."
Represented by the Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR/SEIU), the nearly 500 frontline doctors say that after over a year of stalled negotiations and unfair labor practices by the university, GWU leadership has left them no choice but to be ready to strike, failing a resolution in the coming days.
