Students Protest Shah Of Iran 1968
Demonstrators supporting the Iranian People’s Movement picket between police barricades guarded by several NYPD Officers at 49th Street and Park Avenue across from the Waldorf Astoria’s main entrance in New York City, New York on June 10th, 1968. This protest was intended for Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi’s arrival at the beginning of his visit to the United States, though he was escorted by police through the hotel’s side entrance on 50th Street to avoid conflict. Organized by Iranian expatriates, students, and activist groups, protestors carry signs that read “Stop Arms Shipment To Iran”, “Freedom For Iran”, “The Shah Is A Murderer! Don’t Let Iran Be The Next Vietnam Iranian Students’ Association In U.S.”, and “Columbia Strikers Support Iranian People’s Movement”. (Photo by Bob Parent/Getty Images)
