Analysts say New Delhi's warm welcome for the military ruler is driven by "strategic compulsions," especially in light of a deadly upsurge in violence earlier this month in India's remote northeast. New Delhi wants Yangon's backing in crushing anti-Indian rebels allegedly hiding out in Myanmar and other neighbouring nations who staged a wave of bombings in India's northeast that left more than 80 dead and nearly 220 injured.
