1949: Bulgarian soprano Ljuba Welitsch (1913 - 1996) charms Herod, played by Franz Lechleichner, into giving her the head of John the Baptist by performing the 'Dance of the Seven Veils'. She is playing the lead in a controversial production of Richard Strauss's opera 'Salome', at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Producer Peter Brook, costumes & sets designed by Salvador Dali.
