Bronze Alto-Rilievo, by Woodington, for the Nelson Monument, Trafalgar-Square - the Battle of the Nile, 1850. The second alto-relievo has just been placed upon the Nelson Column, and occupies the side of the pedestal facing the National Gallery. It has been designed and cast in bronze by Mr. Woodington, and represents a scene commemorative of the Battle of the Nile. The point of time chosen is when Nelson, having received a severe wound on the head, is carried into the cock-pit. . The great effusion of blood occasioned an apprehension that the wound was mortal. . the surgeon. . quitted the poor fellow then under his hands, that he might instantly attend the Admiral. 'No!' said Nelson, 'I will take my turn with my brave fellows'. Nor would he suffer his own wound to be examined till every man who had been previously wounded was properly attended to".
