The Boeing 727-2S2F (RE) aircraft is fitted with internal tanks, pumps and a spray boom to spray dispersants at low altitude, which breaks down oil slicks into smaller droplets. The smaller droplets are more easily biodegraded, minimizing some of the harmful environmental effects of an oil spill.
