Midnight At Checkpoint Charlie
Berliners celebrate at midnight at Checkpoint Charlie on the night of 9th November 1989, when East Berliners were allowed to cross into the west for the first time. The border was declared open before the guards could be informed of the decision. Demolition of the wall by members of the public began the same night. (Photo by Tom Stoddart/Getty Images)
