Aston Villa Goalkeepers With The European Cup
Aston Villa goalkeepers Jimmy Rimmer (left) and Nigel Spink holding the European Cup at Rotterdam airport, the morning after Villa's 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the European Cup Final, 27th May 1982.
In the 1981-82 European Cup campaign Rimmer played in all 9 matches for Villa. However, in the Final whilst Rimmer started the match, a recurring neck injury meant that he had to be replaced by Nigel Spink after only nine minutes. This misfortune means he holds the distinction of having won European Cup winners medals with two different clubs - despite not being on the pitch at the end of either final - having previously been Manchester United's substitute in the 1968 Final at Wembley.
