India Imposes Nationwide Lockdown To Contain The Coronavirus Pandemic

The lockdown has already disproportionately hurt marginalized communities due to loss of livelihood and lack of food, shelter, health, and other basic needs. The devastating economic fallout of the pandemic is being felt across the globe for poor people in poor countries who are already struggling to survive there are almost no safety nets to stop them falling into poverty. The lockdown has left tens of thousands of out-of-work migrant workers stranded, with rail and bus services shut down. The number of positive coronavirus cases in India crossed the 6771 mark with 228 deaths as the country reeled under a government-imposed lockdown for the sixteenth day amid increasing hardships for the country's poor.
