Alvin Freeman, 82-year-old, the grandson of houston police officer, Det. Joseph Robert Free, looks over newspaper articles published on Oct. 14, 1912 in the Houston Chronicle ( is on the left) and on the right is an unknown newspaper, but both describe how Detective Joe Freeman gun down F.L.Buckingham and Free died his attempt to arrest Buckingham. Alvin Free's great-grandfather was killed in the line of duty nearly a century ago and is finally recognized where a memorial plaque was added near his tomb stone at the Brenham Cemetery on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, in Brenham.
