Tongs Perming In Zigong
ZIGONG, CHINA - MARCH 09: (CHINA OUT) 72-year-old hairdresser Wang Weimei perms for a customer at his barbershop on March 9, 2015 in Zigong, Sichuan province of China. Tongs perming was devised by French hairdresser Marcel Grateau in which a pair of specially manufactured tongs was used. The tongs were generally heated over a gas or alcohol flame and when the correct temperature was achieved, cooled down and permed hair. The procedure was to comb a lock of hair towards the operator, moving the comb slowly with one hand to maintain some tension, while applying the tongs to the hair successively down the lock of hair towards the point. Wang Weimei has been doing perming for dozens of years and the tongs perming gets its distincted gradually. (Photo by Visual China Group via Getty Images/Visual China Group via Getty Images)
