Left Side Of The Mesentery, & Descending Meso-Colon

The Mesentery is the fan-shaped suspensory ligament of the jejunum and ileum, or all of the small intestine except the upper ten to twelve inches, 1903. From 'Surgical Anatomy: The Treatise of the Human Anatomy and Its Applications to the Practice of Medicine and Surgery, Volume III' (1903). It is composed of extraperitoneal connective tissue, blood vessels, nerves, lymphatics, and an investment of peritoneum. The ascending and descending meso-colon connect the corresponding portions of the colon to the posterior wall of the abdominal cavity. (Photo by VintageMedStock/Getty Images)
