Amauy Oil Refinery Fire, Venezuela
AMAUY OIL REFINERY, VENEZUELA-AUGUST 28, 2012: The Amauy oil refinery, Venezuela’s largest oil refinery producing 645,0000 barrels a day, was ablaze after a gas lead led to an explosion on August 25th igniting oil tanks in the southeastern part of the facility. Imagery from August 28th shows a large tank on fire with emergency crews saturating the blaze with water. Reports state that three tanks were on fire; however, satellite imagery shows at least six large tanks suffered severe damage, four other smaller tanks have some damage and several building along the edge of the facility appeared destroyed.
