Spanish star chef Ferran Adria, of the award-winning restaurant elBulli, signs one of his cooking books at Sotheby’s Auction House, in New York, April 25, 2013. Adria decided to permanently close his restaurant and put the entire content of elBulli’s wine cellar for auction, which is scheduled for April 26, 2013 at Sotheby’s. The proceeds will be used to sponsor his elBulli Foundation, aimed at preserving and celebrating the restaurant’s accomplishments, while keeping it as a center for gastronomic innovation. This new endeavour would allow him and his team the freedom to continue nurturing the creative drive that had defined elBulli, but without the restrictive timetable and demands of a restaurant.
