Hiroshima High Court Okayama Branch Rules Vote Disparity in 2014 Lower House Election Unconstitutional

OKAYAMA, JAPAN - APRIL 28: Lawyers and representatives of plaintiffs speaks during a press conference after the Hiroshima High Court Okayama Branch ruling on April 28, 2015 in Okayama, Japan. The ruling filed by two groups of lawyers at 14 high courts and their branches to seek an annulment of the election results in all 295 single-seat electoral districts. The plaintiffs argue that the vote disparity violates Article 14 of the Constitution, which says all people are equal under the law. The maximum disparity in the weight of votes in the election was 2.13:1 between the Miyagi No. 5 district and the Tokyo No. 1 district. The Supreme Court is expected to issue a unified ruling covering all those cases in the next fiscal year. (Photo by The Asahi Shimbun via Getty Images)
