Banger Racing

Banger racing began in the 1950s and has fast become a popular motorsport, in the UK and across Europe. Racing consists of a mixture of both contact and non contact classes in which drivers of old and scrap vehicles grind their battered vehicles around a dirt or tarmac oval race track in a ultra competitive high octane adrenaline fuelled event. The cars come in all shapes and sizes comprising of former production vehicles such as Nissans, Peugeots, Jaguars, Fords and Vauxhalls. The cars are modified for speed and safety with reinforced side panels, roll over bars and bumpers. The windscreens are removed and the cars are decorated for style with girlfriends names, sponsors logos and images adorning the bodywork adding a splash of colour and individuality to the mangled panels. The governing body ORCi (Oval Racing Council International ) was formed in 1991 and brings together the various groups involved in short oval motor racing. It currently covers over 30 venues, 700 race events and somewhere in the region of 10,000 competitors across England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and mainland Europe.
