Commuters at Slough Station, Berkshire, c 1907.
UNITED KINGDOM - DECEMBER 17: Commuters waiting for the Great Western Railway workmen's train. These trains were run into large towns in the early morning and returned in the evening. The coming of the railways meant that people could live further from their place of work because they could travel more easily. This photograph shows that women and children were also taking advantage of early morning rail services. From a collection of 400,000 photographic negatives from various British Railways and constituent companies photographic collections, formerly known as the OPC (Oxford Publishing Company) Collection.
