Germany To Mark 20 Years Since Fall Of Berlin Wall
BERLIN - OCTOBER 07: Cars and a bicyclist drive past a communist-era mural depicting Socialist ideals on October 7, 2009 in Berlin, Germany. The mural is located on the facade of the building that is now the German Federal Ministry of Finance, though its history mirrors 20th-century German history. Built by the Nazis in 1936, the building served at the Nazi Aviation Ministry under Hermann Goering, after World War II it housed the Soviet military administration and later the communist, East German Volkskammer. The German Finance Ministry moved into the building in 1999, ten years after the collapse of communism in East Germany. Germany will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, which paved the way for the end of communist rule and later the reunification of East and West Germany, this coming November.
